Following on from their 1981 UEFA Cup triumph Ipswich secured another 2nd place finish in Division 1 under Bobby Robson. After Robson left to take over as the national team manager, Bobby Ferguson stepped up from his coaching position, however, just a few seasons later Ipswich were relegated down to Division 2.
